It’s time for our annual PUYO Retreat and it will be a weekend to remember!

Date? Saturday March 6th to  Sunday March 7th

Time? 7:30AM departure from Toronto on Saturday; 5:00PM arrival in Toronto on Sunday

Where? Kinark Outdoor Centre (Two hours north of Toronto)

How much will it cost? $40 for Power  Unit members; $72 for non-members

What does that include? All meals, one-night accommodation, transportation, and all the exciting activities that we have planned for you. However, it will not include lunch on Sunday; Power Unit will provide some refreshments, but please make sure you bring your own snacks as well!

What will we be doing? Pack your skates and your warmest clothing! You will get a chance to participate in outdoor activities such as tubing, skating, and cross-country skiing! Throughout the two days, we will be hosting a number of workshops and games so you can bond with the PUYO family and learn about leadership.

Goal? To strengthen the bond between new and old PUYO members. To engage members through group activities. To have lots of fun!

Come to the Power Unit 2010 Orientation, to be held on Sunday, February 7th, 2010, at North York Central Library Room 1 from 2:30pm to 4:30pm.

Meet members, team leads, and the executive team of PUYO, and find out how you can get involved! Whether you are artistic, tech-obsessed, or business-savvy, there are countless opportunities for you to showcase your talent, strengthen your skills, and unlock your potential!

Night It Up! PUYO’s flagship project, draws over 60,000 people every year for a two-day night market. NIU! is looking for dedicated organizers and volunteers in the following teams:

- Volunteer Resources

Last, but not least, is The E3 Challenge, another annual PUYO project: a business challenge geared towards youths to foster Entrepreneurship, Excellence, and Empowerment. The following E3 organizing teams are looking for enthusiastic members to make this year the best E3 year yet:

A big THANK YOU to everyone who came out to Power Unit’s Christmas Wish on December 20 at Chimera Lounge. Thanks to your generosity and big hearts, we were able to raise $2,000 and dozens of toys for the CP24/CHUM Christmas Wish! Because of you, families and young children in need were able to celebrate a joyous and warm Christmas.

The event was a major success as Power Unit Youth Organization officially launched itself as a standalone non-profit organization, run for youths by youths. We would like to express our gratitude to Councillor Alex Chiu and our many community partners for taking time out of their busy schedule to show their support for PUYO and for the community. As well, thank you to the wonderful staff at Chimera Lounge for the delicious cocktails and yummy snacks.

This past Tuesday, several members of Power Unit had the opportunity to visit the CHUM FM studio to chat with Roger, Darren & Marilyn. Yes, the 104.5 CHUM FM to which your and your mother’s radio dials are permanently tuned.

Jane, Christy and Donna went live to air at 6:35AM—they woke up at 4:30!—to promote Power Unit’s Christmas Wish, the official Power Unit launch party and Christmas fundraiser in support of the CP24/CHUM Christmas Wish. The girls were greeted with a warm welcome and enthusiasm rarely seen that early in the morning.

We’ve got the audio clip you have all been waiting for! Prepare your ear plugs because we were asked to sing Christmas carols, and somehow we turned it into a mash-up of Jingle Bells and Jingle Bell Rock. And no, it did not sound as cool as it reads. Actually, maybe I should make you wait for not waking up early to support us…

On December 20, Power Unit will be hosting Power Unit’s Christmas Wish, in support of CP24/CHUM Christmas Wish, at Chimera Lounge in Markham, ON. Come celebrate Power Unit Youth Organization’s Official Launch and “Give a Kid a Christmas!”

The event will launch Power Unit as a self-contained youth-driven non-profit organization as well as raise funds to give children and families in need a warm and joyful Christmas. Join us for a night of complimentary appetizers and decadent desserts, festive cocktails, live entertainment from local talents, “A Dollar A Wish” auction, cash raffles and more!

Welcome to a new year of Power Unit! This year marks the first year PU is an autonomous, standalone organization.

Every Fall, Power Unit chooses its new executive team and begins planning for a year of events, projects, and fundraisers. At the end of September, the executive team of 2008-2009 and the project team leads from Night It Up! 2009 and E3 Challenge 2009 voted on a new team of executives.

The Executive Team for Power Unit 2009-2010 are:

As the Christmas holiday approaches, Power Unit would like to officially launch the organization into its inaugural year as a standalone, autonomous non-profit while giving back to the local community and those in need. Power Unit is hosting its first Christmas fundraiser, Power Unit’s Christmas Wish, on Sunday, December 20 at Chimera Lounge in Markham, ON. It will be a night of live music and delicious food and drinks with silent auctions and raffle draws. All proceeds will go towards the CP24/CHUM Christmas Wish. Tickets will be sold online—we will post a link to purchase tickets in the coming days.

Power Unit’s Night It Up! 2009 was held this past weekend at Metro Square, and it was a huge success! We would like to thank everyone who came out to the event, as well as the media outlets who took the time to check out our event and spread the good word. After months of planning, we are so psyched at the turnout and that everything ran according to plan; at the same time, we are a little sad that we can no longer bombard our friends on Facebook and Twitter with photos and comments, joking with them that our friendships are dependent on their attendance at the event.

With your help, OtherHalf registered 1111 potential donors at our event. We would also like to thank ACAS for coming out to Night It Up! and spreading awareness on AIDS prevention.

Many of us have begun the countdown to next year’s Night It Up! We hope we will see you there again. We promise next year will be bigger, better, and tastier.
